A Fighter's Day Off ① Ōta-san's Introduction
Ōta-san contacted me the night of the hunt, asking me to come to the ward office at 10 AM.
I confirmed with my father that the ward office opened at 9 AM, so I decided to collect my money.
When I arrived at the ward office, they assisted me without a wait, as usual.
The person at the counter asked for my name and address. When I showed them my Guild Card and answered, they said they would call their superior.
While I waited, someone who seemed to be their superior quickly arrived and led me to a separate room, so I headed there.
As I sat and waited, the superior entered with the person from the counter, carrying an attaché case and several sheets of paper.
They placed two sheets of paper in front of me. I checked them, and the first one read "Auction Results."
◆

I checked the second sheet, which read "Receipt Confirmation Form."
After looking at the two sheets, I looked at the two people, and for some reason, sweat was beading on their faces.
Perhaps nervous, the superior began to speak, their voice trembling.
"As these results show, the total amount received is 11,690,000 yen."
"Understood."
"Then, please confirm this here."
The superior said this, placed the attaché case on the desk, and opened it.
Money was inside, and I tossed it into my usual backpack.
As soon as that was done, I was asked to sign the receipt confirmation form.
After I signed, the superior checked the form and opened the door to the room for me.
As I exited the room and was about to close the door, I realized I had forgotten to say thank you.
"Thank you very much."
"No, no, thank you very much!"
When I bowed my head and thanked them, the superior and the person at the counter bowed even lower and thanked me.
As soon as I left the room, I heard a sigh of relief from inside.
I checked my phone's clock and realized it was almost time for my appointment, so I quickly left the ward office.
When I exited the ward office, Ōta-san was already there.
(Did I make her wait?)
Feeling a little regretful about misjudging the time, I called out to Ōta-san.
"Hello, Ōta-san."
"Hm? Oh, hello."
Ōta-san turned to me and greeted me.
I hadn't interacted with a woman like this for 30 years.
And now, even for a short while, we would be walking somewhere together.
My heart was pounding with excitement for this new experience.
"Well then, shall we go?"
"Yes!"
Ōta-san said this and began to walk.
However, Ōta-san was walking a bit fast, so I cast a light movement speed increase on myself to walk with her.
"Where are we going?"
"A nearby shop from here."
Even when I tried to converse, feigning nonchalance, I received the same curt reply as yesterday.
However, when I looked closely at Ōta-san, I noticed her face looked subtly flustered.
"Um, by any chance, do you not know the way?"
"N-No, that's not... well, I'm a little unsure."
Ōta-san stopped and told me the destination shop.
(I know this place.)
Even checking the map, it was near where we currently were.
"Do you know it?"
Ōta-san asked me anxiously, so I nodded with confidence.
"Yes, I know it. It's this way."
This time, I walked in front of Ōta-san and became the one guiding the way.
"You don't come to the First District much?"
"Ah, I was born in the Second District, so I haven't come here much."
It seemed Ōta-san was from the Second District, so Shimizu-san must be from the Second District too.
We arrived at our destination shop within a few minutes from where Ōta-san had stopped.
It was a normal coffee shop, a bit large inside, but nothing particularly stood out.
Without bothering to wait for me, Ōta-san entered the shop.
When Ōta-san opened the door, I heard the bell chime.
Thinking it would be annoying if it rang repeatedly, I followed Ōta-san directly inside.
Immediately upon entering, Ōta-san looked around the shop.
"Are they already waiting?"
I spoke to Ōta-san, who was carefully searching for someone inside the shop.
Ōta-san seemed truly flustered and didn't reply.
"Why don't you try calling them?"
"Y-Yes, that's right."
Ōta-san seemed to notice my words, took out her smartphone, and began to make a call.
Someone answered quickly, and Ōta-san began to speak in a hurry.
"S-Senpai? I just arrived at the shop."
I watched Ōta-san on the phone, and even the shop attendant in front of Ōta-san looked troubled.
"Ah, got it!"
Ōta-san said this and headed towards the seats.
I looked in the direction Ōta-san had gone and spoke to the attendant.
"We're meeting someone, so please add two more to that table over there."
"Understood."
I told the attendant that and also started walking towards the seats, following Ōta-san.
Then, I saw Ōta-san had successfully met up with someone and was talking to them.
Ōta-san noticed I had arrived and was about to introduce me to the person she was talking to.
"This is Satou, who I told you about yesterday."
"Oh? This is the one..."
When Ōta-san shifted slightly away from the person, there stood a beautiful woman who looked as if she had stepped out of a magazine.
Her black hair reached her shoulders, and she exuded an elegant aura that made it difficult to simply speak to her.
Witnessing her appearance, my tension immediately heightened.
However, as an adult, I had to properly greet her.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Satou Kazuya."
"Nice to meet you, Satou-kun."
I was a little dazed after she greeted me.
Seeing my state, Ōta-san urged me to sit.
"We've finished our greetings, why don't we sit down quickly?"
"Indeed. Satou-kun, please do as well."
"Yes..."
As I sat down, looking at Ōta-san and that person, I realized I was missing something important.
Nervously, I asked the person a question.
"Excuse me, by the way, would you mind telling me your name?"
The person realized she had forgotten to say her name, apologized to me, and then told me.
"My name is Taniya Ellen. My sister has told me a lot about you."
Taniya Ellen said this to me with a slight smile.
