Adventurer Beginner's Course ⑥ Adventurer Rank 2 Certification

Upon entering the Guild Master's room and taking a seat, the Guild Master immediately questioned us.

"Did something happen to you two?"

Ōta remained silent, her eyes still a little red, and I had nothing particular to say, so I also said nothing.

Soon after, Shimizu entered the room and placed a mountain of combs on the table. The Guild Master was surprised by the quantity and asked Ōta for confirmation.

"Ōta, you really didn't help defeat them, did you?"

"Nah, I didn't have time for that with all the dismantling."

"With your skill, huh..."

Hearing that from Ōta, the Guild Master stroked his mustache while folding his arms in thought.

"Shimizu, how many were there?"

"Thirty-five."

"I see..."

The Guild Master fell deeper into thought after hearing the number from Shimizu. Just as the Guild Master began to groan, a knock was heard at the door. The Guild Master instructed them to enter, and the bus driver came in. The driver approached the Guild Master and whispered something in his ear. It seemed the Guild Master had received some information from the driver.

"Alright. That's enough."

"Yes, sir."

The Guild Master said that to the driver, and the driver left the room. After confirming the driver's departure, the Guild Master began to speak to me and Ōta with a complex expression.

"I just received a report; the condition of the cockatrice materials you two brought is extremely good."

Shimizu was surprised to hear those words. However, there was no reaction from me or Ōta. The Guild Master turned to Shimizu and continued speaking.

"Shimizu, calculate the amount per cockatrice: 100,000 for the subjugation reward and 500,000 for the meat purchase price."

"Y-yes, sir!"

At the Guild Master's command, Shimizu hurried out of the room. I watched Shimizu leave, and when the Guild Master said, "So," I turned to face him.

"As for the feathers... since the guild can't buy them, we'll put them up for auction."

"An, an auction!?"

Ōta seemed surprised by the Guild Master's mention of an auction. This was the second time I'd heard it, but I still didn't quite understand what it meant. I had to ask the Guild Master.

"What do you mean by 'auction'?"

Hearing my words, the Guild Master kindly explained.

"An auction is when valuable or rare items are displayed and sold to buyers."

"Something like that exists?"

"It does, but... it's not used very often."

"Hmm."

While we were talking about that, another knock was heard at the door. When the Guild Master told them to enter, Shimizu came in with money. Shimizu placed the money down with a thud in front of me and Ōta. Simultaneously with the sound, Shimizu spoke.

"This time, the reward distribution will be at a 7:3 ratio, so Satou receives 14.7 million yen, and Ōta receives 6.3 million yen."

Shimizu explained it plainly. Next to me, Ōta was staring intently at the money placed in front of her. After finishing her explanation, Shimizu sat back down next to the Guild Master. Seeing this, the Guild Master told Ōta to put the money away. Ōta began to put the money into the bag she had brought.

"That's all for Ōta. You may leave."

"Eh, h-hai."

Ōta, told so by the Guild Master, finished putting away the money and exited. The money was still piled in front of me, so I put it into the backpack I had brought. Waiting for me to finish putting away the money, the Guild Master began to speak.

"This quest was a greater success than expected."

"That's because Ōta helped me hunt a lot."

Shimizu seemed pleased that I praised Ōta and smiled slightly. However, the Guild Master's face, unlike Shimizu's, became stern.

"This time, you hunted too much..."

"Is that so?"

"You're going to stand out."

"I don't care."

I had no interest in listening to the voices of people who would make a fuss about my hunting achievements. Whether they envied me or felt frustrated was of no concern to me. The Guild Master heard my words, sighed deeply, and placed something like a card in front of me.

"This is your guild card."

"Huh."

I picked up what was called a guild card and looked at it, seeing "Rank 2" written on it. I had heard a little about ranks from Ōta, but it seemed the Guild Master would tell me more details.

Rank 8: A heroic existence who has accomplished great deeds.

Rank 7: An ultra-high-level adventurer, though not quite at Rank 8.

Rank 6: A highly skilled, handpicked high-level adventurer.

Rank 5: An adventurer chosen by recommendation from several countries.

Rank 4: An adventurer who can only be one of a country's elite.

Rank 3: An adventurer so strong that everyone in the prefecture knows them.

Rank 2: An adventurer who can earn a reputation for being quite strong within their district.

Rank 1: An adventurer who has recently registered.

According to this Rank system, my evaluation seemed to acknowledge that I was quite strong even within the district. Ōta's Rank was also 2, so when I asked about it, the Guild Master answered with some difficulty.

"Basically, after graduating from an advanced school like a knight's academy, adventurers are immediately given Rank 2."

"Is that so?"

"Well... there's a wall between Rank 2 and 3."

The Guild Master said something I didn't quite understand, as if to convince himself.

After that, I was told to receive a detailed explanation from Shimizu, and I left the Guild Master's room.
