Swordsman Junior High School Arc ⑨ Monster Collection System
When we returned to the car, my father took his smartphone out of the car and started making a call.
I sat next to the piled mandrakes and watched my father.
After a while, my father’s voice, which had been speaking, grew a little louder.
"He really defeated an adult grizzly! Please come quickly!"
It seemed that no matter how my father explained the grizzly to someone, they wouldn't believe him.
After my father finished the call, I asked him where he had called.
"Where were you calling?"
"The Izu Branch Office of the Ward Office. They pick up monsters hunted there."
"They'll come all the way here?"
In this world, monsters don't just disappear on their own, so a system had been established to dispatch people to collect them.
While waiting, both my parents took off their armor and sat there without speaking a word.
I was bored, so I tried to go to the field again, but my parents stopped me.
Just then, I saw two trucks approaching.
When they saw the trucks, my parents stood up and watched the trucks come to a stop.
When the trucks stopped, several people got out.
At the front was a well-built man with a beard on his chin, followed by four others.
The man at the front and my father exchanged brief greetings, and then the conversation continued.
"So, where's the grizzly?"
"The grizzly is in the field."
Hearing that, the bearded man clicked his tongue slightly and told the people behind him to prepare to go to the field.
The bearded man also seemed to be preparing, as he told my father to wait a moment.
As the people who got out of the truck were about to start preparing, they spotted the pile of mandrakes.
The youngest-looking man among them looked at the mandrakes and spoke to the bearded man.
"These too, right?"
"That's right. What's their condition?"
"They have dirt on them, but they're clean."
The bearded man sighed lightly and approached the mandrakes.
Then, while looking at the mandrakes, he lightly poked the young man's head.
"You wouldn't know this since it's your first time in the field, but you need to properly appraise monsters."
"Yes, sir…"
The young man seemed disheartened after being reprimanded.
Then, the bearded man pointed at the mandrakes and spoke to the young man.
"These are degraded mandrakes. When they scream just before dying, mandrakes degrade."
"Is that so?"
"I haven't seen an undegraded mandrake in decades, but know that such individuals exist."
"Yes…"
Next, as the bearded man began to examine another one, his expression changed.
Then, he looked at the other mandrakes, and his expression clouded even further.
"This is…"
The bearded man muttered, then told everyone else to appraise them.
Then, the young man looked at the mandrakes and asked the bearded man,
"All seven of these are undegraded mandrakes, right?"
The five people present, including the bearded man, then fell silent, and the young man asked the bearded man again if he was mistaken.
Then, the bearded man immediately approached my father and spoke to him while looking at the mandrakes.
"Did you do that? How?!"
"No… I…"
When my father said that, the bearded man turned to my mother.
"Then, was it her?"
"Not really…"
Just as the bearded man was about to ask my father who it was, he seemed to notice me.
My father, realizing that the bearded man was looking at me, continued to speak.
"That child defeated them."
"You're joking…"
Saying that, the bearded man approached me.
The bearded man looked down at me, sitting, and asked with bewilderment.
"How did you defeat those?"
"Just before they scream, you can cut around their mouths."
"You can do that?"
"The result of doing it is right there. War Wolves were also coming from a distance, so I did it to deal with them quickly."
Hearing that, the bearded man stared at me with a bewildered expression.
He immediately turned on his heel and instructed the four others to carry in the mandrakes.
