Swordsman Junior High School Arc ⑧ Grizzly Battle Conclusion
(How many times had I dodged the grizzly's attacks?)
Several times, I couldn't dodge far enough and was hit by its claws. My clothes became tattered, and I was bleeding in places.
Even so, I didn't use Heal to conserve magic power. Instead, I unleashed as many Bashes as possible on the grizzly.
(Faster! Strike the attack even a little faster!)
If the grizzly attacked once, I would swing my sword twice.
This was a situation where I couldn't take even a single hit, requiring split-second decisions.
If I didn't attack even a little faster, I wouldn't be able to seize victory.
While slashing at the grizzly, my attack speed gradually increased.
(Attack Speed Improvement has been acquired, and my attacks are gradually getting faster.)
The grizzly's movements were also definitely slowing down, and I started to feel a sense of ease.
(Now's the time!)
Judging so, I intentionally stood directly in front of the grizzly.
Then, as expected, the grizzly raised both its hands.
Just before the grizzly brought its hands down, I leaped back just enough to dodge, and the grizzly's hands passed in front of me.
Before the grizzly's hands touched the ground, I landed two Bashes aiming for its neck.
Still, the grizzly's neck wouldn't sever. So, after its attack hit the ground, I thrust my sword into the wound on its neck.
The sword dug in, crushing flesh, and pierced through the grizzly's neck.
I confirmed the grizzly still seemed like it might move and tried to swing my sword sideways to cut its throat, but the sword wouldn't budge.
If I held onto the sword for too long, the grizzly's attack would come, so I let go of the sword and put some distance between us.
Looking at the grizzly, it still hadn't fallen and was standing.
(I have to fight with my fists.)
I had no fist skills right now.
However, even so, if I didn't fight with these fists, I would lose. So, I clenched both hands and steeled myself.
I was watching for an opening to dodge an attack, but the grizzly didn't move from its spot.
After a few seconds passed with neither of us moving, the grizzly fell backward.
When the grizzly fell, dust flew up. Thinking something was coming, I leaped backward.
After waiting a bit and nothing happened, I waited for the dust to settle before approaching the grizzly.
Even when I got close to the grizzly, it didn't move.
I slowly pulled the sword out of the grizzly's neck and confirmed that the grizzly was defeated.
Wiping the blood from my sword, I looked in the direction of my parents and saw them both frozen, staring at me.
Even as I approached them, they just stared at me without moving.
I pointed at the grizzly and consulted my parents.
"What should we do about that?"
My parents still didn't move even when I said that.
It wasn't until I sat down next to my father that he finally spoke.
"Did you defeat the grizzly?"
"As you can see, it's not moving over there."
"Oh..."
"Want to go take a look?"
My father waved both hands in denial, then suggested we go back to the car.
When I asked if the grizzly was okay to be left like that, it seemed it was.
I went to look at the grizzly one more time, then followed behind my parents.
