Swordsman Junior High School Arc ⑥ War Wolf Attack

As we walked up the mountain path, my father spoke to me from behind.

"Listen, Kazuya, listen carefully. When you fight monsters, you always wear armor, and fighting with a gun is the basic rule. You can't fight properly with that sword of yours, and you're not going to go without armor."

"If I only use a gun, won't I hit someone?"

"You train so you don't hit anyone. You like swords, but you'll hardly use them after you finish junior high school."

I looked at my mother as he spoke, and she said nothing, as if my father's words were true.

My mother, at some point, had a gun that fit in her hand, and she was watching our surroundings carefully.

Their pace was slow, and we finally reached the summit.

At the forest's exit, the high plains stretched as far as the eye could see.

(It's so wide!)

I had fought on fields called high plains several times in games, but in reality, such beautiful greenery spread out before me.

As I was admiring the view, my father suddenly shouted and pointed his gun forward.

"Front!"

When I looked forward at my father's voice, something was coming toward us.

There was a monster running on four legs, its body moving up and down, characterized by its silver fur.

(A War Wolf, huh?)

A War Wolf, an animal-type monster, with a physique like a wolf and sharp fangs.

I looked at my father; sweat was pouring from his face, and the gun he held was trembling.

(If I fight, my father will probably shoot me...)

I gently guided the barrel of my father's gun upward with my hand.

"Don't shoot."

After telling my father that, I drew the sword from my back and ran toward the War Wolf.

I heard my parents' voices telling me to stop from behind.

Even hearing those voices, I had no intention of stopping.

The active monster I was confronting in reality for the first time was coming.

(I'm about to exchange blows for my life!)

The sensation was dull during the one-horned rabbit incident.

This time, I'm going to meet the opponent who's running at me with killing intent head-on.

I cast Body Enhancement and Movement Speed Enhancement and ran even faster.

As I got closer, the War Wolf opened its mouth in front of me and pounced.

I stepped in with all my might and swung my sword horizontally with all my strength, aiming for its mouth.

As my feet dug into the ground, the sensation of cutting flesh and internal organs was transmitted through both hands supporting the sword.

When I finished my swing, the War Wolf fell to the ground and stopped moving.

(Alright!)

I was careless after defeating the War Wolf and was a moment too slow to notice the vines tangled around my feet.

My parents were rushing toward me from afar.

"Don't come!"

After stopping my parents, I cut the vines at my feet with my sword.

At that moment, I heard a sound of something crawling out from the ground nearby.

Before it completely emerged from the soil, I struck it with a bash.

However, the opponent didn't stop with one blow.

Then, it whipped something like a tentacle at me, sending soil flying from the ground.

I jumped backward to dodge, and the opponent, as tall as I was, completely emerged from the ground.

(This is a Mandragora!)

A plant-type monster that usually sleeps underground, and when you step on the grass-like part of its head, its root-like body attacks you.

The vines tangled around my feet must have been trying to trip me.

Perhaps the first blow had an effect, as it was swaying slightly.

Not missing the opportunity, I raised my sword and delivered another bash.

The Mandragora fell, letting out a dying shriek.

Hearing that, I instinctively looked around.

Then, several mounds appeared in the surrounding ground.

(Just as I thought...)

A Mandragora's dying shriek calls its nearby comrades.

Seven Mandragoras were trying to crawl out from the ground near me.

Judging that, I began to strike the Mandragoras trying to emerge from the ground with bashes.

Perhaps noticing the commotion, I saw more War Wolves coming from the direction the first War Wolf had run from.
