Swordsman Junior High School Arc ⑤ Departure to Izu Highland Field
The next day, we left the house early in the morning by car to go to Izu.
Before we left, my parents were loading luggage into the car. I was told to hand over my luggage too, so I only handed them my sword.
My father asked if that was all, and when I replied that I only needed my sword, both of them frowned.
My father confirmed again, but when I explained that was truly all my luggage, I was told to wait in the car.
After that, I waited in the car for a while until my parents finished loading the luggage.
After about two hours of driving from home, the entrance gate labeled "Izu Highland Field" began to appear in front of a forest.
On both sides of the gate, fences about five meters high continued to enclose the forest, and the main entrance gate had a double door.
The car stopped in front of the first door, and my father showed something to the person standing in front of the gate.
Then, the first door opened, and after the car moved forward, the first door closed.
After it closed completely, the second door opened, and we entered.
Since the car was still moving, I asked my father about the exchange just now.
"Dad, what were you showing just now?"
"Oh, I was showing them my adventurer school graduation certificate."
"Ohh."
"Basically, you can't enter places like this unless at least one person in your group has a graduation certificate from an adventurer school or a higher-level school."
My father always talks to me properly when I start the conversation.
However, my mother hadn't said much since getting in the car.
About ten minutes after passing through the gate, the car stopped, and my father told me to get out.
(We're still in the forest, so where exactly is the highland part of this place?)
Just as I started walking, wanting to look around a bit more before leaving the car, my father's shout rang out.
"It's dangerous! Don't go!"
Startled by my father's voice, which I rarely heard, I looked at him. After he looked at me, he immediately started unloading the luggage.
When I approached to help my father, he practically shoved only my sword, which had been loaded, into my hands.
"This is all you have, right? The rest is ours, so you wait."
My father spoke, pushing me away, and continued with his own preparations.
When I looked at my mother, she was also preparing something just like my father, so I quietly waited by the car.
After waiting for a while, my father was wearing armor that covered his entire body with plates, and my mother was similarly covered head-to-toe in armor.
Their faces were barely visible through their headgear.
I was dressed in my usual clothes: a plain black T-shirt and denim pants.
(Are my parents going to battle dressed like this...?)
As I watched them, my father pulled something else out of the car.
Firmly gripped in my father's hands was a gun.
I'm not very familiar with guns, so I don't know its name.
(Given its shape, it's probably some kind of shotgun?)
My father gazed at the gun as if checking its feel.
"Alright!"
My father suddenly called out, approaching me with a clanking sound.
Then, after looking at my mother and me, he turned towards the depths of the forest with a serious expression.
"Let's go."
As my father started walking, my mother followed him, also minding her surroundings.
I watched my parents walk, thinking for a moment.
(They look very difficult to move in.)
While wondering why they were wearing so much armor, I looked at the sword I was holding.
(I think I can manage with just this, but...)
With that question in mind, I strapped the sword to my back and followed behind the two of them.
