Swordsman Junior High School Arc ④: Preparing for Tomorrow
For tomorrow's field attack, I listed the skills I wanted to acquire.
◆
Acquirable Skills
Heal Lv10 ⇒ Increased Movement Speed
Bash Lv10 ⇒ Break Attack
Skills I Want to Acquire
Sword Proficiency Lv5 + Stamina Recovery Lv5 (Cleared for Lv10) ⇒ Increased Attack Speed
Sword Proficiency Lv3 ⇒ Provoke
◆
For now, these four are my target skills.
It was another clear day, perfect for a walk, so as soon as I checked the weather, I started walking. Just before I left, my father told my mother he'd be home late tonight, but I wondered where he was going.
(Well, it's fine!)
Since morning, I'd been continuously walking and running, checking if my movement speed was increasing. I repeatedly went around the same area, timing each lap, and suddenly my times started getting shorter.
Increased Movement Speed, just like in the game, lasts for about five minutes once activated. As its level increases, the duration gets longer and the movement speed becomes faster, making it an incredibly useful skill.
It has the same effect even when riding a vehicle, so when I cast it while on my bike, I became even faster. However, the larger the vehicle, the more magic power it consumes, so I can't cast it on anything too big.
Moving lightly on my bicycle, I arrived at my destination in no time.
From now on, I want to raise my Sword Proficiency by at least one level at the training grounds. And then, I'll learn Break Attack, the advanced skill for Bash.
Bash is only effective against a single enemy. However, Break Attack generates a shockwave that can affect the surrounding area.
Anticipating how big the shockwave would be, I headed to the reception to buy a log, and the usual old man was sitting there.
"Long time no see. Logs again today?"
"Hello again. I'd like a log, please."
I handed over the payment for the log and was about to retrieve it when the old man called out to me again.
"By the way, do you know? It seems a genius has appeared at the Swordsman Junior High School in this ward."
"A genius?"
"That's right, that's right. People are asking all over the place about which student was taught by whom, and they even came here to ask, but since I didn't know, I told them I knew a boy who just kept hitting a log with a mace, and they got angry and left."
The old man said, laughing.
(So there are people asking about me.)
It was troublesome, so I just smiled and said, "I wonder who that could be," and left.
As I was moving to set up my log, I saw someone else working on a log for the first time.
Curious to see who it was, I got closer and saw it was Taniya-san. Taniya-san was shaking her ponytail, single-mindedly cutting the log with her sword.
I forgot to set up my own log and found myself captivated by her. Perhaps she noticed my gaze, as she turned around and greeted me with a smile.
I returned her greeting, suddenly felt embarrassed, and began setting up my log. Then, Taniya-san approached me.
I looked up, wondering what she wanted, and Taniya-san started talking, wiping away sweat.
"After the orientation, were you okay?"
"I was quarantined in the classroom for about an hour."
"Really?!"
Taniya-san seemed surprised, as if she hadn't known. Then, she said, "Maybe that was for the best," and continued.
"After Satou Kazuya showed his skills, the parents started searching all over the gym to find out whose child he was and who taught him. It was amazing."
"Amazing?"
What Taniya-san was saying was something I'd heard a bit about from my mother. My interest piqued, I asked her to tell me more, and she spoke, looking down slightly.
"First, since Satou-kun came out from the C class area, parents from other classes rushed to the C class parent seating. Many people were shouting, 'Whose child is that?' towards the C class parents."
"They rushed that much?"
"Almost everyone gathered, I think. It was incredibly noisy."
"Do they really want to know how to acquire skills that much?"
Taniya-san looked at me as if she couldn't believe it.
After saying that, I remembered that junior high school students usually take three years to learn one skill. If there was a child who had learned three such skills, of course, people would want to know the method.
"I'm sorry. But if you keep working with this, you'll eventually learn it."
"That's what I can't believe."
Taniya-san frowned and spoke a little angrily. Afterward, she sighed slightly and apologized to me.
"I knew Satou-kun was working with a log every day, but at first, I thought he was crazy."
"Seriously...?"
"Of course! You just kept hitting a log, and then you'd make a sculpture and smash it. I kept wondering what you were doing."
"Hey, that's harsh."
"But after seeing what happened yesterday, I realized that Satou-kun was really doing it to learn skills, so I'm training with a log too!"
Taniya-san spoke looking directly at me.
(Taniya-san is also seriously cutting the log to learn skills.)
I can't lose to Taniya-san. I set up my log and said to Taniya-san with a smile:
"If you want to learn Bash, swinging with all your might is the trick."
"Thank you for telling me."
Taniya-san said that and went back to her own log. I also faced my log and started swinging my sword.
The sound of two people cutting logs continued to echo in the training grounds until just before closing time. I swung my sword so much that I forgot to learn Break Attack.
While walking home together, Taniya-san told me she has an older sister and that her sister was incredibly surprised when she heard about yesterday.
