Swordsman Junior High School Arc ③ Family Meeting, Father's Decision

I was carried by a male teacher into a classroom on the first floor of the school building.

Looking at the clock in the classroom, about an hour had passed since the male teacher who carried me told me to wait here, but there was no sign of anyone coming.

(Am I forgotten…?)

There’s no place lonelier than a classroom with only one person. I looked at the sword I was holding and remembered what had just happened.

(For some reason, Bash was Lv2.)

The skill sheet should have shown Bash’s Lv as 10. The appraiser earlier had identified Heal’s Lv as 10, so I don’t think there was a mistake.

I couldn’t hear the last part clearly, but if it were a fake, it wouldn’t have been introduced like that.

I rested my head on the desk, trying to recall my attack skills.

“Ah!”

Realizing the reason, I shot up and exclaimed at my own foolishness. I remembered seeing a passage like this in the notes for attack skills:

【Attack skills you remember can only be used up to the mastery Lv of the weapon you are using】

Before, I only used weapons necessary for fighting with my fists, so I had run into the wall of an explanation that I thought was obvious. I had forgotten about that, and it’s a bit embarrassing, but Bash’s Lv was 2 because I was using a sword.

(I want to raise my sword mastery to Lv10 quickly.)

Feeling refreshed, I looked out the window to see if I could spot anything from the classroom.

From there, I could see my mother heading towards me with the male teacher who brought me here.

(They finally came to pick me up.)

My mother was coming this way, and I felt relieved. However, there was something strange about my mother’s demeanor as she approached.

I stopped looking out the window and decided to sit in the chair and wait quietly.

With a rattling sound, the classroom door opened.

From the doorway, the male teacher and my mother looked at me with complex expressions. My mother seemed to want to say something to me. But she looked at the male teacher beside her and seemed to stop herself.

When I stood up with my sword, the male teacher tried to guide me to another classroom for the next guidance.

However, I had no intention of staying here any longer.

“Excuse me, that’s not what we agreed on. If I can use skills, I’m free until graduation, right?”

“That was something the principal said on his own…”

“The principal is the most important person here, right? He said it.”

The male teacher said nothing more. I looked at my mother beside him, and she was completely frozen.

“Let’s go home.”

Saying that, I took my mother’s hand, and surprisingly, she followed me without a fuss.

As I passed by the male teacher, he told me that the entrance ceremony was in three days. After walking a bit outside the school gate, my mother finally spoke.

“Explain when we get home…”

My mother slowly let go of my hand and started walking with a very tired gait. I followed my mother home.

That night, my parents and I sat across a table, holding a family meeting.

On the table was the skill sheet I had used last night.

My parents kept staring at the skill sheet with incredulous looks. I braced myself for whatever they might say.

Amidst this, my father spoke in a strained, hoarse voice.

“What… what exactly is this?”

“It’s the result of slime-bashing.”

“That story… was it true after all…?”

“You believed me?”

My father nodded and fell silent. Then my mother started speaking with a delicate expression.

“When your skills were appraised, everyone around started looking for whose child you were. They were desperately trying to find out how you learned those skills…”

My mother continued to speak, trembling.

“I got scared thinking everyone was desperately looking for me, so I ran into the gym bathroom… I hid, holding my breath, and when it got quiet, I went out, and that teacher was there. I explained the situation, and she said it was alright now.”

“I’m sorry…”

I felt truly sorry for making my mother so scared. However, it seems skills are very difficult to learn in this world. I had to ask that question now.

“But seriously, why doesn’t everyone use weapons? If you use them a little, you can learn Bash or Heal.”

My parents didn’t seem to understand what I was saying, and my mother nudged my father with her elbow. My father, though confused, questioned me.

“How much is ‘a little’?”

“About a week of hitting logs with a mace for 8 hours a day in the training hall.”

“Is that your ‘a little’…”

I was just stating the facts, but my parents seemed strange. My father looked at the VR device and began to speak as if recalling something.

“Come to think of it, your behavior changed after you lost interest in VR games. Did something happen?”

“Hmm, nothing in particular.”

There was no way I could say, “Inside, I’m a 30-year-old man,” so I played dumb.

After that, everyone fell silent. How much time had passed? I wanted it to end already, but my parents still looked completely unconvinced.

As I idly watched my parents, my father suddenly stood up. I looked at him, wondering what was happening, and he grabbed the skill sheet, showed it to me, and said:

“This is really yours, isn’t it?”

“I’ve said it many times, but yes, it is.”

“Then, we’re going to the Izu Highlands field the day after tomorrow. I won’t be convinced until I see you fight!”

My father declared this with determination, staring at me. For me, that news was a wish come true.

“Alright. I’ll get ready.”

I said that to my father with a smile and left the living room to return to my room. In the living room, my father was getting scolded by my mother for what he had said, but I pretended not to hear.
