Swordsman Junior High School Arc ① To the Entrance Orientation
The day of the new student orientation was clear and sunny.
The entrance guide said there was no parking, so I was walking to school with my mother.
Before we left, my mother made me check my uniform and ensure I hadn't forgotten anything multiple times.
As we walked without much conversation, I found myself thinking about what I would do at school.
"Mom, which school did you go to again?"
"What's with the sudden question?"
"Well, I was hoping you could tell me about your school memories."
My mother's steps slowed a little as she thought, and I matched her pace.
"I guess my best memory is when I first used Heal."
"You can use Heal, Mom?"
"Sort of. After I graduated from Swordsman Junior High, the school Kazuya's going to, I went to a support school. But I couldn't learn any more skills after that, so I went to a regular university."
"Oh."
My mother began talking about her Swordsman Junior High days with enjoyment. She said that when she was first given a Heal skill book, she felt anxious about the future.
(Does the school teach skills using skill books? If so, then Lv won't increase.)
Basically, skills and magic learned from skill books don't increase in Lv beyond that. To raise a skill's Lv, prerequisites must be learned.
Even in games, skill books were rarely used to learn skills from other professions. However, there weren't many types, and few were useful.
(If I'm just reading a skill book, I'd probably gain more Lv by hunting slimes.)
Suddenly, I caught a faint, pleasant scent of flowers. I looked around, but there were no prominent flower trees like cherry blossoms, and I couldn't find where the scent was coming from.
Looking ahead, a female student was walking, her glossy black hair swaying.
(That person smells good...)
From her back, I could tell she was wearing the Swordsman Junior High uniform.
Looking back, in my previous life, I put "Game Life" first and had zero friends in the real-world. I went straight home after school without joining any clubs. When I entered society, I chose a company based on the condition that I could leave as soon as work hours ended.
However, I have no regrets about living that life.
(But this time, I want to make friends during my school life, and if possible, I want a girlfriend!)
Having found a goal for school, I arrived at school in high spirits, following the female student walking ahead. My mother suggested we take a photo together at the school gate.
Because we were taking photos, I unfortunately lost sight of the black-haired female student.
(She's at the same school, so I'll probably see her again.)
Pulling myself together, I decided to head to the orientation, which I wasn't particularly looking forward to.
Upon entering the school gate, there was an immediate reception desk. After my mother checked in, I was informed that I was C-class, number 15.
Afterward, we were guided by someone else to the two-story gymnasium.
The orientation was to be held on the second floor, where rows of folding chairs were arranged.
Between the folding chairs, signboards were placed at regular intervals, dividing the areas into blocks from A to F. New students were to sit in the front blocks of folding chairs, and guardians in the blocks behind them.
I walked to my class's designated area, and since the chairs also had numbers on them, I sat down without hesitation.
When the time came, the moderator instructed everyone to take their seats as the orientation was about to begin. Shortly after, an announcement was made that the orientation would commence immediately.
First, the student council president ascended the stage to give a greeting. My eyes turned to the person called the student council president, and it was the same woman whose back I had seen on the way here.
She stood in front of the ornate desk on the stage, gazing at the new students.
"Congratulations on your admission."
The greeting began with those words in a soft voice, and the content was a welcome to the new students. When she stated her name at the end, I was surprised in two ways.
"Student Council President, Taniya Karen."
When she bowed at the end, applause naturally followed. As I clapped, I stared intently at her face, wanting to confirm if the person returning to her seat was truly Taniya-san.
(It's Taniya-san...)
I hadn't consciously looked at her face when she was speaking on stage, but upon closer inspection, it was indeed Taniya-san's face. Unlike when I saw her at the training grounds, her hair was down, and she exuded a gentle aura.
I found myself gazing at her until she sat down.
